Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA expand strategic partnership to advance safe highly automated driving in the next decade

  • Mercedes‑Benz and NVIDIA will extend their partnership to jointly develop the next generation of driver assistance and automated driving systems
  • The collaboration combines Mercedes‑Benz’s automotive engineering and MB.OS with the NVIDIA Hyperion compute and sensor architecture, Alpamayo Stack software, and Halos safety system to accelerate the development of automated vehicles

Mercedes‑Benz and NVIDIA today announced that they will extend their strategic partnership to advance the next generation of automated driving systems. The collaboration brings together Mercedes‑Benz’s automotive engineering and safety expertise and its MB.OS operating system with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI technologies.

“NVIDIA is our most important strategic partner in automated driving. Together, we developed the first Mercedes‑Benz assistance system for urban point-to-point driving for the western world. The expansion of our partnership marks a significant milestone and reflects the mutual trust we have built over the years. Together, we aim to bring further pioneering innovations to the road, offering our customers the best automated driving experience while upholding the high safety standards they expect from a Mercedes‑Benz.”
Jörg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes‑Benz Group AG.
Chief Technology Officer, Development & Procurement

“Accelerated computing is giving vehicles the intelligence to understand the world and reason through complex driving situations. Mercedes‑Benz brings the engineering excellence and commitment to safety this transformation demands. Together, we’re building on NVIDIA Hyperion to bring that intelligence and full-stack safety to the road and make autonomous driving an everyday reality.”
Ali Kani, Vice President of Automotive at NVIDIA

Mercedes‑Benz’s MB.OS operating system supports new driving functions and over-the-air updates, working with NVIDIA Hyperion’s in-vehicle computing and sensor architecture. NVIDIA Alpamayo Stack provides full-stack driving software with AI reasoning capabilities, supporting point-to-point urban assistance, active safety and automated parking. NVIDIA Halos adds to the Mercedes‑Benz safety foundation, including a parallel safety stack that adds redundancy and guardrails. Together, these technologies support advanced driver assistance and the development of future SAE-Level 4 applications, including robolimousines.

Beyond automated driving, Mercedes‑Benz also relies on NVIDIA technologies for vehicle engineering simulation and within MO360, its digital production ecosystem – from virtual planning to AI-based applications. The two partners are working to further enhance efficiency, flexibility and quality across the global production network.

Mercedes‑Benz anniversary year “140 Years of Innovation”

Since Carl Benz filed the patent for the first automobile 140 years ago and Gottlieb Daimler built his motorised carriage shortly afterwards, Mercedes‑Benz has dedicated itself to constant innovation and to creating the world’s most desirable cars for customers. This ambition has driven every innovation – from the world’s first automobile in 1886 to the biggest product launch programme in the company’s history that is currently underway. With its passion for performance and pioneering power, excellence and an unwavering commitment to customer service, the brand has consistently shaped the future of mobility. The result goes well beyond engineering achievement – it creates the unmistakable feeling that runs through everything Mercedes‑Benz does: Welcome home.

Mercedes‑Benz is celebrating 140 years of innovation by driving three new S‑Class saloons on a trans-continental journey to 140 locations worldwide. Each place highlights the brand’s technology, heritage, pioneering spirit and worldwide presence. Along the way, customers, fans and colleagues will get to join in the celebrations – on an epic adventure that will run until October. Follow the “140 Years. 140 Places” drive across six continents on our “140 Years of Innovation | Mercedes‑Benz Media” special and via the Mercedes‑Benz Community.
