At Eurosatory 2026 – one of the world’s leading trade fairs for security and defence – Mercedes‑Benz will present the G‑Class for rescue and special operations as well as, for the first time, specialised solutions from Mercedes‑Benz Vans for demanding deployment scenarios based on the Sprinter and Vito. Under the guiding theme “Protecting what matters”, Mercedes‑Benz’s presence at the trade fair also underlines its contribution to civil protection and national defence: proven technology and innovative strength in the service of security and defence. 

Relief organisations, authorities and armed forces require high-performance, off-road-capable and easy-to-maintain vehicles. With a portfolio of suitable base vehicles, combined with special bodies and conversions that enable demanding operations, Mercedes‑Benz provides the foundation for innovative solutions in humanitarian, governmental, security and military applications.

Built for special challenges: the Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class for rescue and special operations

For more than 45 years, the G‑Class has supported public service operations and delivered maximum mobility even under the most difficult conditions. To this day, more than 74,000 units have proven their worth around the world in patrol and liaison duties, disaster response operations and peace missions. Individual vehicles have achieved a service life of more than 30 years in demanding customer use. 

Whether as an ambulance, fire service, police or border protection vehicle, radio car or mobile technical assistance station: more than 60 different equipment packages have been integrated into this off-road icon for a wide range of users. What all variants share is the proven ladder-frame concept, three 100 per cent differential locks, extreme off-road reduction gearing and ground clearance of up to 241 millimetres, enabling gradient capability of up to 100 per cent, a maximum side slope of up to 28 degrees and a wading depth of up to 660 millimetres. The common-rail turbodiesel achieves a range of more than 600 kilometres – even with lower-quality fuels or kerosene. 

Station Wagon with increased gross vehicle weight: a flexible specialist for complex operations

The variant of the well-known G 350 d Station Wagon with increased gross vehicle weight is designed to meet the highest requirements in terms of payload and operational flexibility. It has a permissible gross vehicle weight of 4.5 tonnes and offers a payload of well over one tonne. Special lashing and recovery eyes at the front and rear enable both internal transport and external transport by helicopter. Optional equipment includes a walk-on bonnet for easier loading of the roof rack and run-flat inserts, which allow a further journey of up to 100 kilometres in the event of tyre damage. In addition, the Station Wagon 4.5 is available with infrared and blackout lighting, the innovative EOSys emergency bridging switch, an EMC package against electromagnetic interference pulses, and a 12-/24‑volt electrical system. With this equipment, the variant is suitable for a variety of applications: military police, command and radio vehicles, tactical support and other specialised tasks. 

Wolf 2: the digital pioneer

At Eurosatory, Mercedes‑Benz will also present the Wolf 2 for the first time as a practical example of the G‑Class Station Wagon. The successor to the all-purpose off-road vehicle is being deployed by the German Armed Forces as a new radio and command vehicle. With a permissible gross vehicle weight of 4.5 tonnes and a payload of over one tonne, this variant offers ideal conditions for transport, logistics and command tasks. It is the first vehicle to be equipped as standard with the new D-LBO digital radio and command system. In addition, a walk-on bonnet as well as infrared and blackout lighting form part of the specification. The Wolf 2 is also air-transportable. 

One base, many solutions: chassis with and without cab for third-party bodies

With the chassis for third‑party bodies based on the G 350 d, Mercedes‑Benz is providing its strategic partners with a platform that enables maximum flexibility for specialised bodies. The optimised vehicle base with wider track width and an extended cab offers greater comfort and additional storage space. The permissible gross vehicle weight is 4.9 tonnes and provides a payload of over two tonnes – a combination that gives body manufacturers scope for a wide range of applications: troop carriers, ambulances or equipment carriers. The 4‑point body mounting ensures optimal weight distribution and secure installation of specialised systems. Optional special equipment such as winch preparation, speed control and specialised body mountings support body manufacturers in realising complex deployment scenarios. With the NATO trailer coupling, it can also tow a 3.5‑tonne trailer. 

In addition, Mercedes‑Benz provides partners with a pure chassis as a base that meets all the prerequisites for the uncompromising off-road capability typical of the G‑Class. In this variant, the dashboard is also available in a splash-proof version in order to guarantee unrestricted operational capability. Other exhibitors will present vehicles based on this platform at the trade fair. 

Mercedes‑Benz Vans at Eurosatory for the first time

By appearing at Eurosatory 2026, Mercedes‑Benz Vans is also strengthening its presence in the international security and defence market. Mercedes‑Benz Vans has been active in the defence sector for more than 25 years and supplies various NATO countries with Sprinter and Vito models. The trade fair presence underlines that vans are not only effective logistics and transport vehicles, but – when configured accordingly – can also serve as modular platforms for demanding deployment scenarios. 

Mercedes‑Benz Sprinter 4x4: versatility meets off-road capability

The Sprinter is valued by customers and body manufacturers around the world, who continue to adapt and convert it for a wide range of applications. As a result, 75 per cent of all Sprinters worldwide are converted, including for governmental and military applications. With four different basic body variants and a permissible gross vehicle weight of up to 5.5 tonnes, it offers a combination of versatility, off-road capability and reliability. The all-wheel drive with electronic differential braking is integrated ex works. The high ground clearance enables outstanding off-road capability, while the 2‑litre diesel engine with 140 kW output and automatic transmission delivers assured driving characteristics that are also suitable for less experienced drivers. A decisive advantage is the engine power take‑off, which enables a flexible energy supply for radio, radar and IT systems – a feature that makes these specialised bodies possible in the first place. The global service and spare parts network guarantees 24‑hour spare parts supply anywhere in the world – a key factor for international operations. 

Mercedes‑Benz Vito as a vehicle for versatile operations

A second van variant at Eurosatory is a specially equipped Vito designed as a military police vehicle. With air-suspension-supported, variably raised ground clearance, camouflage paintwork and all-terrain tyres, this Vito embodies the adaptability of the van platform. Equipment includes stop signals, blue warning lights, weapon holders and radio equipment – a configuration that demonstrates the versatility of the platform without turning it into a dedicated tactical vehicle. The variant shows that Mercedes‑Benz Vans also offers specialised solutions in the mid-size van segment. 

Specialised vehicle combination for counter-drone defence

At Eurosatory 2026, Mercedes‑Benz will, for the first time, present a vehicle combination consisting of a specially converted Sprinter and a G‑Class – developed in cooperation with Munich-based deep-tech start-up Tytan Technologies and realised by body manufacturer BINZ. The Sprinter is equipped with two operator workstations in the interior, secure communication systems and cameras for airspace surveillance, as well as launch boxes for surveillance and interceptor drones. Meanwhile, the G‑Class expands the operational spectrum in areas with challenging terrain with an extendable radar telescopic mast and an additional drone launch module. In doing so, Mercedes‑Benz demonstrates how civilian platforms can be turned into highly modern deployment vehicles through specialised bodies – without losing the maintenance and supply advantages of a standard platform. 

On 10 June, at this year’s ILA 2026 in Berlin, Mercedes‑Benz and Tytan Technologies announced, in the presence of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katharina Reiche, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen their collaboration. The MoU aims to examine and further develop two joint projects: a vehicle-based counter-drone and deployment system based on the Mercedes‑Benz G‑Class, and a mobile drone carrier and operations centre based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. The partners are pursuing a clear model: Tytan contributes expertise in drones, sensors and missions, while Mercedes‑Benz, as vehicle manufacturer, provides suitable mobility platforms and vehicle-related expertise. Both systems are intended for security, border protection and infrastructure protection missions. In the next step, the partners will assess the technical, functional and economic feasibility and review the regulatory, export control and security law framework conditions. Depending on the evaluation results and market requirements, the MoU paves the way for further joint projects. 

Mercedes‑Benz platform strategy and partnership model

Mercedes‑Benz consciously acts as a base vehicle provider, not as a system integrator. The collaboration with specialists such as Tytan Technologies underlines this approach: while Mercedes‑Benz provides the reliable vehicle base, specialised partners develop mission-specific solutions. This division of labour creates clarity in responsibilities and enables each partner to contribute its core competence. All specifications of the G‑Class and van solutions are driven by requirements. 

Mercedes‑Benz Energy: intelligent energy supply for decentralised operations

Modern deployment scenarios are increasingly decentralised and highly energy-intensive. The growing use of drones, radar and IT systems requires a reliable power supply that does not depend solely on diesel generators. Mercedes‑Benz Energy addresses this gap with mobile, scalable energy storage systems. From kWh‑based vehicle‑sized solutions to large infrastructure systems in the MWh range, these storage systems support mobile energy applications and military microgrids. They serve as portable energy storage in the field, as well as for safeguarding the energy supply of barracks and providing backup power for critical infrastructure. By using automotive battery modules, Mercedes‑Benz optimises vulnerable fuel logistics through hybrid energy storage solutions.
