Successful production ramp-up of the all-new electric GLC at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen is in the midst of the successful production ramp-up of the all-new electric GLC, which celebrated its world premiere in September 2025. This underscores the site’s efficiency, flexibility and focus as a centre of excellence for core-segment models within the Mercedes-Benz global production network.

The GLC has been Mercedes-Benz’s most popular model for years. Now the company is driving forward the largest product offensive in its history with the all-electric version. The result introduces a new design language, state-of-the-art drivetrain technology, the intelligent Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS) and powerful performance. The response from customers has been outstanding: In the first three months of the year, the all-new electric GLC has generated more orders than any other electric model in the company’s history.

The all-new electric GLC is manufactured in Hall 9 of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. There, it flexibly rolls off the same production line as our GLC models with combustion engines and hybrid powertrains, as well as the EQE, offering a flexible range of powertrain options. Hall 9 is the plant’s largest production hall and has been operating on a three-shift basis for over a decade.

Within the global production network, the Bremen plant is regarded as a pioneer in electric mobility. As early as 2019, the EQC was integrated into large-scale series production here as Mercedes-Benz’s first electric vehicle. Since then, production in Bremen has covered the entire spectrum of modern drivetrain technologies. With the all-new electric GLC, Bremen is already producing its third fully electric series model.

Integrated production network for the electric powertrain

The components for the electric powertrain of the all-new electric GLC come from a closely integrated production network within Mercedes-Benz. Since 2026, ACCUMOTIVE in Kamenz has been supplying the Bremen plant with the new generation of batteries. These are based on a highly efficient, 800-volt electrical architecture and advanced cell chemistry, enabling significantly shorter charging times. This means that within ten minutes, enough energy can be recharged for a range of up to 305 kilometres². The WLTP range of the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology is up to 715 kilometres³.

The electric drive units are manufactured at the Sebeș plant in Romania. The site has specifically expanded its production portfolio to include components for electric vehicles and is the second site within the global production network, after Untertürkheim, to supply vehicle plants with electric drive units.                                                                                                                                      

The Mercedes-Benz Hamburg plant plays a central role in the manufacture of electric axles and other key components of the powertrain. Hamburg has been supplying the Bremen plant with electric axles for the EQE since 2022 and now also manufactures components for the electric GLC.

About the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant

With around 10,500 employees, the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant is the region’s largest private employer. Eleven models are currently manufactured at the site: the EQE, the C-Class Saloon and Estate, the CLE Coupé and Cabriolet, the GLC mid-size SUV, the GLC Coupé, the GLC with EQ Technology, the Mercedes-AMG SL and GT models, and the Mercedes-Maybach SL. Seven of these are produced exclusively in Bremen.
